Opportunity Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus to join our team at the Royal Eye Infirmary. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality secondary care ophthalmology services, including paediatric urgent care, strabismus services for children and adults, adult cataracts, and retinopathy of prematurity screening and treatments.

Department Overview:

The Royal Eye Infirmary is the main ophthalmic centre for the district, providing tertiary services to the population of Devon and Cornwall in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplastic, Cornea, and Vitreoretinal Surgery. Our state-of-the-art facilities boast 3 large modern operating theatres, an urgent care department, an outpatient department, and an optical dispensary.

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong experience in Sub-specialty training (fellowship level or equivalent) in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • FRCOphth, MRCOphth, or equivalent.
  • Entry on GMC specialist register.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Evidence of experience and ability in teaching.
  • Supervision of projects.
  • Sub-specialty interest within paediatric ophthalmology to complement existing Consultants.
