Role Overview

The Health Physicist Group Manager plays a pivotal role in deputising for the Head of Profession, Health Physics, on matters of radiological protection. This position is responsible for the safety of all operations on plant and equipment owned, operated, or worked upon by the group or outside contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that any advice or guidance given with regard to matters set out in Schedule 4 of IRR17 is implemented effectively.
  • Oversee the prior examination of plans for installations and the acceptance into service of new or modified sources of ionising radiation.
  • Regularly calibrate equipment provided for monitoring levels of ionising radiation and check that such equipment is serviceable and correctly used.
  • Periodically examine and test engineering controls, design features, safety features, and warning devices and regularly check systems of work provided to restrict exposure to ionising radiation.

Requirements

  • Certified and appointed Radiation Protection Adviser.
  • Degree or substantial relevant experience in radiation protection.
  • Radiation protection professional qualification, e.g., HPA/RPD Foundation Course in Radiation Protection or equivalent.
