Job Title: Principal Engineer - Competence Management

Transport for London (TfL) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to join our Permanent Way Engineering team. As a key member of our technical leadership group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the competence of our staff in track and track renewal activities.

About the Role

The Principal Engineer for Competence Management will be responsible for coordinating Permanent Way competence across TfL rail modes. This involves setting competence standards, harmonizing standards across modes, and ensuring effective application of these standards. You will work closely with track component and configuration engineers, track design, project engineering, maintenance, and assurance teams to achieve this goal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set competence standards on behalf of the Professional Head of Permanent Way Engineering
  • Harmonize competency standards in Permanent Way across TfL rail modes
  • Check that competence standards are being applied effectively
  • Understand TfL's long-term vision and strategy to provide a sustainable competence regime
Requirements
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience with chartered status
  • Understanding of track renewal, inspection, and maintenance techniques
  • Knowledge of interfaces within the Permanent Way and with other asset areas
  • Experience in a safety-critical operating railway environment
