Join National Grid as a Mechanical and Electrical Fitter and be part of a team that's upgrading the UK electricity grid for the future. As a key member of our team, you'll support 6 substations and play a crucial role in ensuring the lights stay on and society keeps moving.

What You'll Do

You'll be responsible for a wide range of duties on substation plant and equipment, including installation, refurbishment, maintenance, fault investigation, and repair. You'll work on complex 275kV or 400kV circuit breakers, transformers, high-speed on-load tap changers, and cable systems, as well as ancillary equipment like DC battery systems, air compressors, and diesel generators.

Requirements
  • A minimum Level 2/3 recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering, or an NVQ/Level 3 electrical or mechanical qualification with relevant fitting experience.
  • Good all-round engineering skills, including working to safety procedures, mechanical fitting, electrical fitting, hydraulics, pneumatics, working at height, lifting operations, panel wiring, and fault finding.
  • A Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Residency in Norwich, Kings Lynn, Eyre, Dereham, or Wisbech.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive starting salary of £36,774 pa, plus a seasonal working allowance of £1,794 pa, making a total of £38,568 pa. You'll also receive a company commercial vehicle and fuel from home to work, 26 days holiday plus 8 statutory days, and the option to buy additional or sell holiday days. Our generous contributory pension scheme will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%, totaling 18%.
