The Role

As the Commercial Finance Director, you will be a pivotal member of our senior leadership team, directly reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. You will be responsible for providing expert financial insights, strategic guidance, and leadership across the organisation. Your role will be integral in aligning financial management with our commercial goals, ensuring that Poundstretcher continues to thrive in a competitive market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the Commercial Finance team, cultivating a high-performance culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Financial Guidance: Act as a strategic advisor to the Chief Financial Officer and senior management, providing insights and recommendations on financial matters that impact the company's commercial activities.
  • Commercial Partnership: Collaborate closely with commercial, operational, and marketing teams to develop and implement strategies that maximise profitability, drive revenue growth, and improve cost efficiencies.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Oversee the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, ensuring that they align with the company's strategic goals.
  • Investment and Initiative Evaluation: Develop and refine financial models to assess the viability and impact of new business initiatives, investments, and projects.
  • Market and Competitor Analysis: Stay ahead of market trends and competitor activity, identifying potential opportunities and risks.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance: Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, maintaining full compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
About You

The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced finance professional with a robust background in commercial finance, particularly within the discount retail or FMCG sectors. You will possess strong strategic thinking abilities, combined with the capability to lead and influence at all levels of the business. You are someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about driving change and innovation.

Key Requirements
  • Extensive Experience: Proven track record in a senior commercial finance role, preferably within the discount retail or FMCG sectors.
  • Leadership and Management: Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build, develop, and inspire teams.
  • Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable business strategies.
  • Financial Acumen: Extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Communication and Influence: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Professional Qualification: ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualification or equivalent is required.
