Overview

The Scottish Government invites applications from suitably qualified nursing professionals to fill the role of Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland. This is a Director (SCS 2) level position based in Edinburgh with some travel required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-profile leadership of the nursing profession across Scotland, focusing on recovery and reform in health and care services.
  • Work in partnership with other Chief Professional Officers and Health and Social Care Directors to ensure safe service delivery and reduce health inequalities.
  • Engage with and influence solutions to staffing challenges, delayed discharges, and community care pressures, bringing creative and workable solutions to protect services and workforce wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Workforce to identify synergies and improved ways of working across teams.
