About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Gynaecology team at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

As a Staff Nurse in Gynaecology, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in our inpatient ward and gynaecology day unit.

You will work collaboratively with the wider Gynaecology team to ensure that patients receive a high standard of care, and that their dignity and privacy are maintained at all times.

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care.
  • Ensure that care is patient-focused and that patient dignity and privacy are maintained at all times.
  • Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and other appropriate NMC guidelines.
  • Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values, and spiritual beliefs of patients and colleagues and that equal opportunities are practiced.
  • Provide psychological and emotional support to patients in the gynaecology inpatient ward and gynaecology day unit.
  • Act under the direction of the registered nurse in charge of the nursing team in setting standards and expectations in the quality of care.
  • Maintain effective communication with all disciplines, patients, and relatives.
  • Represent patients at multi-disciplinary meetings, ensuring that their needs are assertively presented.
  • Ensure that all Trust and Unit policies and procedures are adhered to, and act according to the Health & Safety Act and manual handling practice.
  • Record all accidents or incidents and report to the nurse in charge. Inform manager when changes in circumstances occur which affect safe and competent practice.
  • Participate in the safe storage and administration of medicines in accordance with Trust Policy.
  • Take responsibility for operational issues in the absence of more senior staff.
  • Ensure that all clinical and legal nursing documents are completed accurately and legibly, and that their relevance is understood and confidentiality maintained in accordance with Trust policy and NMC guidelines.
  • Assist with the maintenance of necessary equipment and supplies in order to carry out clinical activity with efficiency and safety.
  • Work in conjunction with the team leader or Sister/Charge nurse to ensure safe care for all patients in the gynaecology department.
  • Have knowledge of the structure of referral mechanisms within the outpatient and inpatient environment for the differing specialities.
  • Undertake any reasonable and relevant clinical or non-clinical functions commensurate with grade to ensure patient needs are met at all times.
  • Practice in accordance with the professional direction as stipulated in the Trust's Nursing & Midwifery strategy.

Person Specification

  • Essential:
    • RN1/RN2 Adult on NMC register
    • Diploma or degree in Adult Nursing
  • Desirable:
    • Practice assessor qualification
    • Experience of supporting students in clinical practice
