Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Research Nurse to join our team at Velindre Cancer Centre. As a Research Nurse, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of early phase clinical trials, working closely with our multidisciplinary research teams to ensure the successful implementation of these studies.

Main Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the delivery of early phase clinical trials, ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research governance regulations.
  • Responsible for coordinating and implementing research protocols, including the preparation of submissions to appropriate committees and research bodies.
  • Promote clinical trials and create awareness of Velindre Clinical Trials Unit and Wales Cancer Research Network amongst the NHS.
  • Collaborate with research colleagues to develop and implement new research studies, including the assessment of feasibility and resource implications.
  • Provide expert opinion as patient advocate, ensuring the best possible care for patients participating in clinical trials.
  • Administer diaries and quality of life questionnaires to patients, provide instruction and subsequent collection.
  • Play a key role in informed consent process, including the provision of patient information sheets and explanation of study procedures.
  • Support patients through news of their condition and treatment side-effects, providing first line of contact for patients and relatives with concerns or questions.
Requirements
  • 1st Level Registered Nurse with evidence of continued professional development.
  • Post basic qualification in cancer care/research or willingness to work towards.
  • Graduate or willingness to work towards.
  • Knowledge of the research process and regulatory requirements ICH-GCP.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Clinical Research Qualification.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • ECDL.
  • Phase I/II trial experience.
  • ITU/HDU experience.
Skills and Attributes
  • Venepuncture/cannulation skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good patient advocate.
  • IT Skills - able to use WORD, Internet and Email.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to travel, in the course of duties.
  • Flexible approach to working hours according to service needs.
