The Open University Business and Law Schools are inviting applications to join our PhD programme, commencing on 1st October 2025. Our PhD programme offers a unique opportunity to conduct research in a world-class faculty, with a strong focus on economic, public, and social value.
Research Areas- Accounting Accountability and Governance: Explore the role of accounting in promoting accountability and governance in business and society.
- Digital Twin and Circular Economy: Investigate the potential of digital twins to facilitate whole lifecycle information flow in a circular economy.
- Service Inclusion and Wellbeing: Develop innovative solutions to promote service inclusion and wellbeing in the digital age.
- Sustainability Strategies for Resilience: Examine the impact of sustainability strategies on resilience in supply chain systems, with a focus on the food sector.
- Energy Transition in Emerging Countries: Investigate the potential of complementary innovations in off-grid systems, multi-purpose energy hubs, and battery repurposing to support energy transitions in emerging countries.
- Online Harms and Women's Online Safety: Explore the intersection of online harms and women's online safety, with a focus on the legal framework.
To be eligible for the PhD programme, applicants must have a minimum of an upper second-class honours degree (2:1 or equivalent) or a specialist master's degree in a relevant subject with a strong research element. A proposal of at least 1,000 words and no longer than 2,000 words, indicating knowledge of the literature, methods, and likely approach to the project, is required. A covering letter and IELTS Academic exam certificate (if applicable) must also be submitted.
