Handforth, Cheshire East, United Kingdom Pets at Home Group Plc Full time
About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Product Manager to lead our team of Product Owners in creating and delivering a robust roadmap for our Omnichannel products and functionality. As a champion for the collaborative development process, you will use insight and data to prioritise high-value initiatives covering a blend of consumer enhancements, business process improvements, and technical system changes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver quarterly roadmaps that feed into the overall product roadmap, creating this two quarters out.
  • Ensure the highest-value initiatives are sequenced correctly within the quarterly roadmap, covering consumer initiatives, business process improvements, and technical system changes.
  • Accountable for ensuring the sequence is supported by the correct level of due diligence to aid effective prioritisation.
  • Ensure Product Owners are laser-focused on the problems to solve and required outcomes for the backlog initiatives.
  • Ensure the Product Owner backlogs support the overall product roadmap.
  • Provide transparent communication with stakeholders about the prioritisation of the quarterly roadmap, using evidenced-based decision making to support the quarterly roadmap sequencing.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure they are fully appraised on current priorities and sequencing.
  • Share post-launch metrics and learnings with stakeholders and leadership.
  • Ensure you are up-to-date on the latest business and consumer metrics.
  • Ensure all prioritised initiatives are clearly aligned to business and consumer metrics.
  • Collaborate with the Head of UX to ensure the latest consumer research and insight is a core part of your work.
  • Regularly engage with Engineering and QA leads to share quarterly roadmap initiatives and sequencing, creating greater transparency upfront.
  • Work with IT to identify and implement technology solutions that streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Continually review the product team's ways of working to seek the most optimal and efficient approach, which can then feed into the overall ways of working to continually optimise the end-to-end delivery process.
  • Champion the programme ways of working with the product owners to create consistency and rigor across squads, creating a continual improvement mindset.
  • Provide day-to-day support and direction to the product owner team.
  • Manage the team and take accountability for their performance.
  • Inspire and motivate the team to perform to their best.
  • Act as a role model by collaborating with stakeholders across the business.
  • Attract and retain a diverse pool of talent who reflect the Pets at Home values and behaviours.
  • Represent the business at product events to build a network and pipeline the team resource.
  • Set standards within the team, acting as a role model of the Pets behaviours and values.
  • Support the Head of Omnichannel Product with team culture, direction, and brand perception.
  • Chair and drive team ceremonies and action plans.

This is a 'hybrid' role, so involves working two days per week from our Support Office in Handforth (Cheshire).

Essential Experience, Knowledge & Expertise
  • At least 5 years' experience of operating in a product role, with experience of management, preferably in a product-related role, with a deep understanding of subscription models within a commerce domain.
  • Experience of subscription service propositions (leading or product owning).
  • Experience of operating in an Omnichannel-focused business, direct to consumer being preferable.
  • Strong understanding of the methodology associated with Product Discovery.
  • Strong understanding of the Scrum methodology.
  • Prior experience of working directly with Engineering squads on a daily basis.
  • Advocate of agile methodologies that are applied based on what is appropriate for the Pets organisation, not wedded to pure agile methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience of working with research, UX, and UI teams.
  • Demonstrated success in releasing products that have met or exceeded business objectives.

Desirable Experience, Knowledge & Expertise
  • A strong leader with a track record of creating high-performing teams.
  • Experience of mentoring and supporting product owner development plans.

Key Attributes
  • Remain close to the core of the business, with a good overview of the key metrics and organisation priorities and challenges.
  • Clear on the vision and supporting roadmap to get there, creating a roadmap of initiatives that take the business closer to the vision.
  • Outcome-focused, understanding of how to set and measure outcomes for initiatives to support the Product Owners.
  • Comfortable with data, generating actionable data-focused priorities.
  • Understand the consumer needs, ability to source and understand user feedback from multiple forms.
