Supporting Students with Learning Difficulties

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Additional Learning Support team at West Herts College. As a Learning Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring that students with learning difficulties or disabilities have access to the educational opportunities offered by the College.

Your focus will be on supporting learners in the classroom, working collaboratively with teaching staff to meet the diverse needs of learners. You may also spend time supporting learners in out-of-class support sessions. A good understanding of EHCP and the procedures associated with gathering information for annual review meetings is desirable.

You will be required to work well within a team, cross-college colleagues, and have the ability to work independently when required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a diverse range of students are essential. Keeping accurate records is crucial.

A proactive and resourceful approach is required, as you will be involved in creating individual support strategies and working collaboratively with curriculum-based colleagues. An understanding of the specific educational needs of students with learning difficulties within an FE setting is desirable, but a proven enthusiasm for this area of work is essential.
