About the Role

The Ward Manager will provide clinical leadership to and management of ward staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to adult inpatient services users. The post holder will be responsible for maintaining personal contact with patients, their relatives, and carers, being sensitive to their needs for respect, privacy, and dignity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective clinical leadership to and management of ward staff.
  • Maintain personal contact with patients, their relatives, and carers.
  • Lead on the formulation of staff rotas to ensure the most effective use of manpower and resources in relation to service user need and ward activity.
  • Lead on the monitoring of all staff sickness, in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Ensure that all staff follow the guidelines identified in the Trust and National policies.
  • Participate in the investigation of patient complaints, as per Trust Complaints procedure.
  • Coordinate and participate in the recruitment and selection of staff as required.

Person Specification

  • Qualified mental health nurse.
  • Experience managing a staff team.
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Awareness of CQC requirements.
  • Experience leading change.
  • Experience dealing with difficult situations.
