About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate individual to join our team at Daniel Thwaites Head Office as a Horse Care Specialist. This is a unique opportunity to work with our four majestic Shire horses and be an integral part of our equine team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional care and attention to our Shire horses, ensuring their health, well-being, and safety at all times.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans for each horse, including dietary and nutritional needs, training programs, and fitness regimens.
  • Assess and maintain the overall health and fitness of the horses, identifying any potential issues and taking proactive measures to prevent them.
  • Train and develop the skills of our Shire horses to ensure they are well-behaved and safe to handle in a variety of situations.
  • Plan and execute fitness programs tailored to each horse's specific needs, ensuring they are capable of performing their duties effectively.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, hygiene, and discipline within the horse care facility.
  • Provide first-stage veterinary care, including administering medications and monitoring the horses' health.
  • Represent Daniel Thwaites at public events, showcasing our Shire horses and promoting the company's brand.
  • Travel with the horses to various destinations, ensuring their safe transportation and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to the horses' care and well-being.
  • Ensure all horse-drawn vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and serviced.

Requirements

  • Passion for horses and a strong understanding of their behavior, needs, and welfare.
  • Experience working with horses, either in a professional or personal capacity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and evenings, and occasional overnight stays.
  • Full driving license and ability to drive horse-drawn vehicles.
