Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Homelessness Support Worker to join our team at Central Recruitment Services Ltd. This is a temporary opportunity that will allow you to make a real difference in the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness.
About the Role
This role involves providing support to clients who are transitioning from rough sleeping to independent living. You will work closely with a caseload of key clients, undertaking regular key working sessions to develop and implement SMART Support Plans. Your goal will be to empower clients to achieve independence and self-sufficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold a changing caseload of key clients and undertake regular key working sessions to develop and implement SMART Support Plans.
- Complete comprehensive needs and risk assessments to identify client goals and objectives.
- Conduct interviews with prospective clients using specialist assessment tools to engage them in the assessment and support planning process.
- Accompany clients to visits and other services as required.
- Arrange and conduct formal case reviews with clients to assess progress and adjust support plans as needed.
- Participate in taking Housing Benefit forms to the housing benefit office or uploading them online as necessary.
- Work in partnership with other departments and external agencies to ensure client needs are assessed and met.
- Support clients in identifying activities that prepare them for independence and facilitate their move towards it.
- Take part in running activities or small groups in response to client needs or as part of a project-wide program of group work.
- Assist clients in accessing suitable courses or placements to support their transition into work, education, or training.
- Help clients make successful claims for welfare benefits, including Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, and ensure they maximize their income.
- Deal with clients' immediate support needs as appropriate, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
Requirements
- A working knowledge of supporting clients into supported accommodation and/or floating support services.
- A demonstrable understanding of Housing and related legislation.
- The ability to effectively liaise with service providers and agencies to establish or improve services for clients.
- The ability to be self-motivating and work under pressure, manage time effectively, prioritize tasks appropriately, and produce high-quality work.
- The ability to motivate people to move towards an appropriate level of independence and inclusion.
- Experience supporting clients with tasks such as budgeting, calculating benefit entitlements, and understanding rent arrears.
- Experience working with vulnerable people presenting significant levels of need and risk, with an ability to devise and deliver on action plans through high-quality risk management and needs assessment.
- A good understanding of current safeguarding procedures.
Salary and Benefits

- Minimum 12 months' experience in a front-line social care role within the last 3 years (unless otherwise stated).
- Fully enhanced DBS registered on the DBS update service or issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £50).
- Employment or education history covering the last 5 years that can be verified through the referencing process.
