About the Role

At Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, we are seeking a highly skilled Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our team in the Neurodisability Service. As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a crucial role in providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex communication difficulties in children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist speech and language therapy services to children and young people with complex communication difficulties, including assessment, differential diagnosis, interpretation, management, and outcomes.

• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address communication goals and promote improved outcomes.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including pediatricians, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals, to provide comprehensive care and support.

• Act as a clinical advisor and resource for colleagues and other professionals within the Trust and external agencies.

Requirements

• Recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent.

• Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

• Health Professions Council license to practice.

• Short courses in specialist areas, including AAC, Autism, and Language Disorder.

Desirable Qualifications

• SLT Clinical Master's degree.

• Qualified to deliver specialist assessments relevant to the post, including Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS).

• Training in clinical and student supervision.

Essential Experience

• Assessment, diagnosis, and management of children and young people with complex communication difficulties, including Autism, Language Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Epilepsy, and Acquired Brain Injury.

• Knowledge and experience in using a broad range of diagnostic assessment tools relevant to specialist client groups, including qualitative and standardized assessments.

• Experience in student clinical supervision and clinical and peer supervision procedures.

• Experience of interdisciplinary team working and knowledge of the impact of cultural issues for families and SLTs working with children and young people who are neurodiverse and have developmental differences.

Desirable Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrable specialist skills in the assessment and management of speech, language, and communication problems related to children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental disorders.

• Ability to communicate outcomes of assessment and management plans to families and relevant internal and external professionals, including pediatricians, schools, and other healthcare professionals.
