About the Role:

Boeing Defence UK is seeking a seasoned professional to lead their Safety Management System (SMS) team in providing Products and Services Safety. The successful candidate will oversee SMS Safety Investigations across BDUK programmes, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of circa 20 experienced members during an exciting time of growth within BDUK.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the safety investigation process across all BDUK programmes, ensuring timely and effective investigations that underpin the BDUK Just Culture policy and support mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain and evolve the BDUK safety investigation process to promote best practice in alignment with Just Culture principles.
  • Establish a governance and mentor programme to develop and maintain competency across BDUK safety investigators and Occurrence Review Group panel members.
  • Work closely with the BDUK Occurrence Manager to establish trending and identify repetitively weak barriers for targeted safety reporting.
  • Coordinate safety investigations across BDUK, ensuring investigations are aligned with relevant stakeholders.
  • Govern the Occurrence Review Groups/Event Review Groups.
  • Collaborate with programme Safety leads to track identified safety investigation recommendations to closure within their area of responsibility.
  • Develop and deliver safety investigation and Occurrence Review Group training.
  • Promote safety through the development of SMS Promotion campaigns based on investigation team findings.
  • Manage Safety Investigation metrics using the BDUK SMS tool.

Requirements:

  • HNC (minimum) in Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience in aircraft engineering, maintenance, or operation.
  • Formal training in Safety Investigation and Just Culture principles.
  • SIGNIFICANT experience in safety investigations and the application of Just Culture.
  • Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience.
  • Strong communication skills, technical competency, and proficiency in formal reporting writing tools such as MS Word.
  • Diplomatic with strong-mindedness essential for interfacing with UK MoD customers, suppliers, and the wider Boeing enterprise.

Estimated Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 per annum

Location: UK-based position requiring local legal authorization to work immediately.
