Job Title: Safety Investigation Lead

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Investigation Lead to join our team at Boeing Defence UK. As a key member of our Safety Management System team, you will be responsible for leading SMS Safety Investigations across BDUK programmes and working closely with a multidisciplinary team of circa 20 experienced members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the safety investigation process across all BDUK programmes, ensuring timely and effective investigations that underpin the BDUK Just Culture policy and support mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain the BDUK safety investigation process, promoting safety investigation best practice in alignment with Just Culture principles.
  • Establish a governance and mentor programme to develop and maintain competency across BDUK safety investigators and Occurrence Review Group panel members.
  • Work closely with the BDUK Occurrence Manager to establish trending and the identification of repetitively weak barriers which should be targeted in the safety reporting tool and Incident XP tools.
  • Act as the management focal for safety investigations across BDUK, ensuring investigations are coordinated with relevant stakeholders.
  • Govern the Occurrence Review Groups/Event Review Groups.
  • Work closely with programme Safety leads to coordinate the tracking of identified safety investigation recommendations to closure within their area of responsibility.
  • Manage Safety Investigation metrics using the BDUK SMS tool, including the design and continued development of appropriate metrics and coordination of safety investigation inputs to relevant safety meetings.
  • Lead the development and delivery of safety investigation and Occurrence Review Group training.
  • Work with the wider Boeing Enterprise to support investigation forums and share best practice across the wider Boeing safety investigation community.

Requirements:

  • HNC (minimum) in Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience in aircraft engineering, maintenance or operation.
  • Formal training in Safety Investigation and Just Culture principles.
  • Significant experience in safety investigations and the application of Just Culture.
  • Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead on the planning of work, and develop/use meaningful metrics to evaluate safety status and provide performance visibility.
  • Able to effectively identify and execute opportunities to improve existing processes and training to provide improved safety mitigations and error management strategies.
  • Lead on the removal of obstacles by identifying where and what help is needed and coordinating with the appropriate leaders and team members.
  • Strong communication skills, technical competency, and skills within formal reporting writing tools such as MS Word.
  • Diplomatic whilst being strong-minded, with significant UK MoD customer, supplier and wider Boeing interface.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with the use of common safety tools such as Risk Registers, Bow Ties including the use of Incident XP for safety investigation results.
  • Experience using MoD's ASIMS/DASORs for in-service occurrence reporting and mandatory reporting of events to the military or civil authorities.
  • Experience in using civil and military safety reporting tools.
