Medical Investigator Role
The General Medical Council (GMC) is seeking a Medical Investigator to join our Triage Team. As part of this role, you will examine complaints and concerns we receive that might call a doctor's fitness to practise into question and decide whether we need to investigate further.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working within the Medical Act and our Fitness to Practise Rules to determine whether concerns are raised about doctors' fitness to practise and require investigation.
- Analysing large and complex documentation while liaising with colleagues, doctors and members of the public in order to assess those concerns.
- Ensuring enquiries are handled and progressed in accordance with agreed SLAs and guidelines.
This is a decision-making role and applicants must demonstrate their previous experience of making decisions, by applying established policies, guidance, and procedure. You need to have excellent analysing skills and be able to identify and summarise concerns and produce well-written decisions, which are well-reasoned and clearly explain how and why your decision was reached.
You will receive a full induction, which usually consists of 2 weeks face-to-face training in our Manchester office, with ongoing support provided in the role. Current office attendance requirement is minimum 2 days per month (subject to change). You will be required to attend more frequently during the induction period.
As a Medical Investigator, you will play a leading role in public protection and contribute to the GMC's mission to support good, safe patient care across the UK.
We offer a range of benefits, including:
- 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more
- A generous employer pension contribution of 15%
- Access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression
- Flexible working patterns
- Attractive salary that's reviewed annually
- Discounts at 100s of high street and online stores
- Discounted gym membership
- Private medical insurance
- Employee assistance programme
- Cycle to work scheme for those wanting a greener commute
- Bike lockers and shower facilities
We are happy to support a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.
The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination. We are also committed to the Disability Confident employer scheme and support the requirements of the Disability Confident interview scheme.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
Please provide a CV and covering letter. The covering letter should clearly set out how you meet the essential skills for the role, which are listed in the job description. You should also include a paragraph outlining your reasons for applying for the role.
We will assess the information you provide against the skills required for the role and let you know whether you will progress to the next stage of the recruitment process.
Please note that applications submitted without a cover letter will be considered incomplete and not shortlisted.
We look forward to receiving your application.
