Speech and Language Therapist Primary School Opportunity

A vibrant primary school in South London is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to provide tailored support for students with special educational needs, focusing on enhancing their communication skills. This role is pivotal in helping students express themselves effectively and engage with their peers and learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the speech and language needs of students, tailoring therapy plans to address individual requirements.
  • Develop and implement effective therapy interventions, working closely with students on a 1:1 basis to enhance their communication skills in both social and academic contexts.
  • Collaborate closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to integrate speech and language support within the classroom setting, ensuring a cohesive approach to student development.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers and classroom assistants on strategies to facilitate communication and language development among all students, particularly those with speech and language difficulties.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting therapy plans as necessary to ensure continued development and success.
  • Prepare detailed reports on student progress and communicate findings effectively to parents and guardians, providing strategies for support at home.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, therapy sessions, and student progress, adhering to school policies and professional standards.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in speech and language therapy, participating in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • A registered Speech and Language Therapist with a relevant degree and professional qualification, demonstrating expertise in the field.
  • Previous experience working in a school setting is preferred, with a solid understanding of the educational environment and the specific challenges faced by students with special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A patient, empathetic, and creative approach to therapy, adapting methods to suit the individual needs of students.
  • A clear DBS check is required to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
