iFAST is an innovative medical technology company that has developed a game-changing microfluidics-based test for antimicrobial susceptibility. The test reduces the test time from 48+ to 3 hours, helping to combat antimicrobial resistance which kills more than 1 million people per year.

We are seeking a skilled Junior Mechanical Engineer / Technician to join our team in Southampton, to bring vital technology to market and help us solve the massive issue of antimicrobial resistance. The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering or relevant field and proven practical skills with good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assemble & align high-quality microfluidic chips.
  • Contribute to the design and assembly process of a consumable (microfluidic) chip cartridge.
  • Conduct tests on microfluidic devices to assess performance following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Inspect finished products for quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Keep production logs and record data in compliance with our quality management system (QMS).
  • Receive, inspect, and keep an inventory of production parts and components.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repairs of iFAST machines in the field.


The salary for this position is estimated to be around £25-30k per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Requirements:
  • Degree in engineering or successful completion of an apprenticeship in a relevant field.
  • Proven practical skills with good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and schematics (Technical drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams).
  • Experience with machine tools and fixture assembly in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to work well in a team and to manage & prioritize your own workload with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills, to liaise with colleagues and the wider community.
  • Self-motivation to do a great job and to help the company succeed.
  • Desirable: Experience using CAD systems (3D modelling, inventor, AutoCAD).
