As a Product Strategist at Tesco, you will be part of the Product Chapter, working alongside other Product Experts to drive business growth and deliver outstanding value to customers. You will be responsible for owning a customer journey or collection of journeys, working closely with your squad, Tribe lead, Chapter lead, and Agile Coach to define and prioritize initiatives aligned with the company's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of the product and make informed decisions about its development to ensure alignment with business objectives and key results.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and have a basic understanding of critical systems and platforms.
  • Use research tools and techniques to inform strategic decisions and resolve product direction.
  • Listen actively to customer feedback and bring together insights from multiple sources to gain a richer understanding of customer needs.
  • Understand why customers use the product and use data and insight to identify high-value jobs.
  • Monitor and respond to important product metrics, demonstrating evidence of supervision and response.
  • Develop a clear evaluation plan for product releases and demonstrate how this feeds into continuous improvement.
  • Understand the Scrum methodology and be comfortable embedding it within the squad, including core ceremonies, clear roles and responsibilities, a shared purpose, product vision, and well-defined product backlog.
  • Familiarize yourself with simple squad performance metrics and use them to continuously improve performance.
  • Collaborate with others to write clear and inspiring vision statements that guide the product roadmap.
  • Develop a basic roadmap for the product, working collaboratively with the squad and other subject matter experts as needed.
  • Ensure the roadmap is validated against market and customer needs.
  • Skilled at writing user stories and following the INVEST principle.
  • Familiar with story mapping techniques and use them to build cohesive product features, actively engaging with partners for feedback.
  • Understand squad capacity in a structured way and use this data to guide prioritization and value outcomes.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other subject matter experts to ensure platform development is an ongoing part of product development, keeping the platform safe, secure, and well-maintained.
Requirements
  • Curiosity, desire to understand customers and their behavior, and capacity to learn fast.
  • Experience working in an agile organization, with a solid understanding of Scrum methodologies, tools, and practices.
  • Previous product management or product ownership experience.
  • Understanding of customer research methodologies and ability to interpret customer insight from multiple sources.
  • Critical thinking; ability to set a clear vision, prioritize, and plot a roadmap to achieve it.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills using data and insight.
  • Ability to manipulate data (e.g., in Excel).
  • Ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of collaborators.
  • Experience in the retail and/or telecoms industries desirable.
  • Delivering brilliant customer journeys through multiple channels desirable.
  • Platform ownership and development desirable.
