Project Overview

This project aims to push the boundaries of magnetic field engineering by utilising the unique properties of bulk superconductors. By combining the strengths of wound superconducting solenoids and superconducting bulks, we can create enhanced and shaped magnetic fields suitable for a range of scientific and industrial applications.

Key Challenges:

  • To develop novel magnet configurations that take full advantage of the properties of bulk superconductors
  • To overcome the technical challenges associated with integrating bulk superconductors into existing magnet systems
  • To demonstrate the feasibility of using bulk superconductors in practical applications

Requirements:

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science or a related field
  • Experience in computational modelling and simulation of electromagnetic fields
  • Strong understanding of superconductivity and magnetism

Funding:

This project is fully funded by an EPSRC DLA studentship, which covers fees and maintenance for eligible students.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to work with world-leading researchers in the field of superconductivity
  • Access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities
  • A friendly and supportive research environment

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
