Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Anatomical Pathology Technician to join our Cellular Pathology team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work closely with anatomical pathology technicians, mortuary assistants, and pathologists during post-mortem procedures.

Main Duties:

  1. Post-mortem work, including forensic examinations.
  2. Receipt and registration of deceased patients.
  3. Release of deceased patients to funeral directors.
  4. Entering patient details onto the laboratory computer system and inputting the correct tests, maintaining all required logs.
  5. Answering reception and telephone queries and liaising with other Trust staff and the general public.
  6. Preparing bodies for relative viewings and police identification.
  7. Organising referral work, packaging, and sending of samples to other Trust sites and to other Trusts nationwide.
  8. Stock control, including receiving and receipting deliveries, documenting, and organising batches of reagents and performing verification tasks.
  9. Cleaning and decontaminating equipment and work areas.
  10. Demonstrating duties to other staff.
  11. Error logging and troubleshooting.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology from the Royal Institute of Public Health (RIPH) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Automation in Mortuary settings.
  • Interpersonal.
  • Keyboard and mouse.
  • Numeracy-Statistical & mathematics Interpretation.
  • Basic quality Control & assurance awareness.
  • Medical Scientific terminology.
  • Able to deal with emotionally distressing situations in a sympathetic and professional manner.

Estimated Salary: £30,500 per annum
