About the Role

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) is seeking an experienced and effective leader to serve as the Chair of its Board of Directors. As a key member of the BMC team, the successful candidate will be responsible for motivating and guiding the Board to deliver its strategic role and provide effective governance for the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a strong affinity for the work and responsibilities of the BMC, as well as a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to environmental stewardship. They will be able to bring a diverse and passionate group of Directors together to achieve the BMC's goals and objectives.

The role provides an opportunity to gain satisfaction from contributing to decision-making and scrutiny at a time when the BMC is seeking to grow its membership and enhance its services. The successful candidate will also join at a time of increased focus following the Olympic success at Paris 2024 and planned Paralympic participation for Los Angeles 2028.

Candidates are expected to have a strong understanding of governance principles and practices, as well as experience in leading and managing teams. They will be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including members, staff, and external partners.
