About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Senior Category Buyer to join our team at Distinct Recruitment. As a key member of our procurement function, you'll play a critical role in sourcing materials and services that align with our client's strategic goals and projects.

Your primary responsibility will be to ensure value for money, supplier performance, and quality, while contributing to the long-term success of the procurement team. This is a hands-on, end-to-end procurement role that requires strong commercial acumen, excellent contracting skills, and the ability to manage the full procurement process from RFP through to supplier performance management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage RFPs, resolve warranty disputes, and oversee Free Issue Materials (FIM)
  • Track supplier performance to ensure excellence across all stages of procurement
  • Act as the critical link between the engineering/project management teams and the rest of the procurement function
  • Ensure seamless coordination and effective communication with stakeholders
Requirements
  • Extensive procurement experience, ideally as a Senior Buyer in the railway industry or within engineering and manufacturing environments
  • Strong grasp of key railway sub-systems and the latest digital and electronic systems
  • Commercial acumen with excellent contracting skills and proven ability to manage the full procurement process
  • Experience with Oracle-based or other e-procurement systems is highly desirable
  • MCIPS qualification, or working towards one, is preferred
