About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Heritage Advisor to join our team at the Department of Conservation. As a key member of our heritage team, you will play a crucial role in providing specialist archaeological advice to ensure alignment and integration with national heritage strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with regional leadership to align regional work programmes with national heritage and visitor strategies.
  • Act as a key liaison between regional operations and national heritage teams.
  • Strengthen the regional team's heritage knowledge and skills.
  • Support and provide heritage advice into complex projects, including planning, scoping, commissioning, and reviewing work.
  • Engage with Māori, iwi, technical experts, community members, and heritage agencies at all levels.
  • Provide specialist heritage advice for operational projects.
  • Communicate effectively through clear, concise written and oral communications.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of five years' experience in heritage conservation.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Proven skills in relationship management and stakeholder influence.
  • A strong track record of providing expert heritage advice, particularly in collaboration with Māori and iwi communities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
