Industrial Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Industrial Officer to join our team in Newcastle. As an Industrial Officer, you will play a key role in building union power and promoting the interests of our members.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement strategies to encourage participation and recruitment of new members, particularly from under-represented groups.
- Co-ordinate and work with committees to achieve industrial relations and negotiation goals.
- Advise and represent members on employment rights, equality legislation, and discrimination law.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of campaigning, monitoring trends, and establishing contacts with external bodies.
- Progress national campaigning objectives and provide strategic and technical advice to inform campaigning decisions.
- Identify and work with full-time officers, reps, and other trade unions to develop and promote PCS campaigning objectives.
- Co-ordinate and draft campaigning materials, briefings, and reports for a range of audiences.
- Deal with the media in relation to specific campaigns.
- Provide advice on equality practice and the Equality Act 2010 and handle personal cases.
- Produce guidance to support negotiations and contribute to PCS Academy courses on equality issues.
- Support the PCS equality forums and networks and organise meetings, seminars, and events to promote understanding of equality issues.
- Develop and implement strategies to identify and support new leaders and representatives.
- Build effective teams and ensure that lay structures are effective and comply with PCS Rules.
- Secure appropriate facilities from employers and provide guidance on union structures and policies.
- Encourage, educate, and support members into activism and elected roles within the union.
- Identify and address activists' training needs and promote learning in the workplace.
- Develop and deliver courses and learning materials.
- Proactively promote team and collaborative working across PCS departments.
- Participate in PCS planning and budgeting processes and implement and promote the PCS Equal Opportunities Policy.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of the political processes in the UK and the role and work of trade unions. You should have basic knowledge of employment rights, equality legislation, discrimination law, and working practices. You should also have experience in industrial relations and negotiations, advocacy and representation, project management, and campaigning.
