About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Specialist Nurse to contribute to the implementation and further development of our innovative diagnostic service for skin cancer. The successful candidate will work closely with the Cancer Performance Team, the Clinical team, and will see patients both face-to-face and via our newly established Teledermatology Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to GP urgent referrals for patients with symptoms that could indicate cancer.
  • Provide rapid triage of patients to reach a definitive diagnosis, advice on management of their condition, signposting to appropriate support services, and rapid onward treatment if cancer is diagnosed.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, practicing autonomously and being self-directed.
  • Work alongside key clinical colleagues to assess patients and direct them to the appropriate pathway, in line with developed protocols.
  • Participate in the implementation of audit, quality, and risk management initiatives and support the evaluation of the Dermatology Pathway Nurse service.
  • Represent the Trust and the specialty at internal and external meetings related to the Dermatology service as appropriate.
  • Participate in the delivery of health promotion and screening advice to patients as appropriate.

Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Degree/Diploma in nursing studies (or equivalent nursing qualification and experience).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Qualification in non-medical prescribing or willingness to undertake.
  • Clinical Assessment and diagnostics qualification or willingness to undertake.
  • Evidence of assessing patients in the clinical environment.
  • Experience of cancer pathways.
  • Effective communication skills in verbal, written, and presentations.
  • Ability to undertake training to request diagnostic tests.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
