Materials Planner

We are seeking a detail-oriented Materials Planner to join our Supply Chain team at Octopus Energy. The Materials Planner will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless flow of materials through our supply chain, working closely with various departments to maintain optimal inventory levels and support installation and production schedules.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of our supply chain operations. As a Materials Planner, you will be responsible for:
- Proactively monitoring and maintaining optimised inventory levels, ensuring that stock levels are sufficient to meet production and installation requirements while minimising excess and obsolete inventory.
- Being the main day-to-day point of contact for suppliers on materials forecasts and operational performance, ensuring timely and accurate order placements, tracking shipments, and resolving/escalating any supply issues promptly.
- Working closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and finance, to gather data and insights for material planning and inventory optimisation.
- Utilising data analysis tools to assess material usage patterns, forecast future material needs, proactively managing risk of stock-outs, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of material plans, purchase orders, inventory levels, and supplier information.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in materials planning, demand forecasting, or inventory management, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment on direct-to-consumer goods.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively externally and with cross-functional teams, and demonstrate proficiency in visual and presentation skills.
- Strong organisational, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail to resolve issues and quickly and accurately.
- Demonstrating tenacity and resilience in driving solutions to completion, proactively addressing supply chain issues, and prioritising the customer's needs and ensuring positive outcomes.
- Flexibility to travel across our UK operation sites.
