About the Position

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dynamic cardiology team within the Specialist Medicine Division at Colchester Hospital.

The successful candidate will be involved in clinical work within cardiology, demonstrating good leadership and providing supervision for junior staff.

Responsibilities will include participating in regular teaching programs, weekly meetings, and monthly audit meetings.

This is an excellent opportunity for professional development, with the chance to write up and publish case reports, reviews, and quality improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

The post-holder's main responsibility will be managing cardiology inpatients, taking a leading role in daily ward rounds.

They will be expected to supervise junior grades of doctors and participate in educational opportunities, including transthoracic rest and stress echocardiography training sessions.

The post-holder will also take part in at least one cardiology out-patient session per week and have the opportunity to join the general medical on-call rota.

Person Specification

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC with licence to practise
  • Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1 competences in medicine at time of appointment & CT/ST2 competences in medicine
  • At least 24 months' experience in medicine at ST/SHO level (not including Foundation modules)
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Evidence of active participation in audit

Desirable

  • Demonstrates awareness of the basics of managing medical disease, including emergencies
  • Evidence of some level 2 competences in acute medicine
  • Evidence of relevant academic & research achievements and involvement in a formal research project
  • Evidence of involvement in management commensurate with experience
  • Evidence of good multidisciplinary team working and leadership supported by multi-source feedback or other workplace-based assessments
  • Demonstrates an understanding of NHS management and resources
