Location: Dundee, UK

Position Summary

You are on top of trends throughout the industry and are always looking for how they can improve our solutions.

You will be joining the NCR Atleos Software Engineering organization, working directly with the Vice President of Software Architecture, other architects, and several software development teams that build our go-to-market products. In this role, you will be key in defining, promoting, implementing, and overseeing key architectural standards and frameworks that enable business success and ensure the scalability, maintainability, and reliability of our products.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with senior Software Engineering leads, SMEs, and architects to determine the appropriate architectures, technologies, and tooling to use.
  2. Articulate the Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) and architect the solutions and standards to meet those NFRs.
  3. Help define, promote, and maintain architectural standards that are leveraged across development teams, and that support the cloud and on-prem products they build.
  4. Produce and maintain architectural artifacts, including diagrams and presentations.
  5. Manage and prioritize architectural and technical backlogs.
  6. Be 'hands-on,' assisting teams by:
    1. Guiding on adopting and implementing best practices and architectural standards.
    2. Reviewing the teams' designs and implementations to ensure alignment with the approved architecture.
    3. Providing ongoing technical guidance to team members as required.
    4. Helping to troubleshoot issues in production.
    5. Working with QA specialists to ensure adequate automated, performance, and resilience testing.
  7. Collaborate with DevOps & SRE specialists to create and enhance our build, deployment, and operational monitoring capabilities.
  8. Work with NCR Atleos Professional Services, other stakeholders, and end customers to understand end-user pain points, requirements, and solution architectures.
  9. Meet with stakeholders to clearly communicate status, issues, and options.
  10. Contribute to project planning, product roadmaps, and prioritization activities.
  11. Stay up-to-date with emerging trends, architecture and design patterns, software development practices, tools, and technologies.
  12. Be seen as a technical leader that fosters a culture of support, best practice, excellence, openness, and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  1. A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  2. 5+ years of leading architecture and designs for high-transaction processing systems.
  3. 3+ years of working with Microservices, Docker, Kubernetes in public cloud environments.
  4. Knowledge of cloud platforms, ideally Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS.
  5. Java, Spring, or.NET Core Cloud development experience.
  6. Experience designing and implementing micro-service architecture.
  7. Experience articulating NFRs and architecting the solution to meet them in conjunction with business/product and engineering teams.
  8. Experience working in a scrum, agile project.
  9. Experience leading design of new projects.
  10. Experience evaluating, selecting, and coordinating technology choices.
  11. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  12. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  13. Excellent presentation skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  1. Experience working in a Scaled Agile environment, such as SAFe and supporting a multi-scrum team development project.
  2. Certification in one or more cloud technologies.
  3. Experience working with high-volume transaction systems.
  4. Experience with developing software for Financial Institutions.
  5. Experience with compliance standards such as PCI and SOX.
