Dispensary Manager

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dispensary Manager to join our team at Market Harborough & Bosworth Partnership. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to our patients, while ensuring effective financial control of the Dispensary.
Main Responsibilities
• Provide mentorship and guidance to trainee dispensary staff, apprentices, and students.
• Line manage the dispensary staff in accordance with current practice policy.
• Ensure team members complete significant event forms correctly and in a timely manner.
• Oversee the training of new Dispensers.
• Lead the team of Dispensers and organize a weekly rota or deputize as required.
• Take responsibility for developing your own clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills within the workplace.
• Carry out appraisals and identify training needs based on competencies required for the DSQS and complete the annual DSQS as required.
• Arrange staff meetings and/or training as required.
Dispensary Management
• Ensure that all returned controlled drugs are disposed of and recorded correctly.
• Responsible for maintaining efficient, cost-effective stock control, minimizing wastage through out-of-date stock.
• In conjunction with the Medicines Manager, ensure controlled drugs are dispensed with in accordance with practice policy.
• With the Medicines Manager, review the latest guidance, ensuring the dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC, etc. guidance.
• Liaise with the Lead GP and Medicines Manager for dispensing over formularies.
• Ensure and maintain effective distribution of dispensing supplies to the Surgery.
Wholesaling
• Become GDP trained by the Responsible Person and become a member of the wholesaling team.
• Become involved in weekly ordering of stock, receiving of medications, and arranging delivery invoices.
• Adhere to the GDP Training Manual and oversee the process at both Market Harborough and Husbands Bosworth Sites.
Confidentiality
• In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with or allow us to gather sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.
• In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the jobholder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff, and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organization. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

• Carrying out annual individual performance reviews for Dispensers after suitable training.

Communication
• The jobholder should recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:
• Communicate effectively with other team members.
• Communicate effectively with patients and carers.
• Recognize people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
• Attend the quarterly Dispensary meeting as well as quarterly Staff Meetings wherever possible.
• Keep the Practice Manager informed of any relevant issues.
Contribution to the Implementation of Services
• The jobholder will:
• Apply Practice Policies, standards, and guidance.
• Discuss with other members of the team how the Policies, standards, and guidelines will affect own work.
• Participate in audit where appropriate.
• Report any concerns over the probity of other team members to the relevant Manager or GP as appropriate.
• Complete the annual DSQS form.
• Undertake staff annual appraisals.
Oversee the Dispensary team's annual leave, liaising with the Practice Manager where appropriate.
Complete and send monthly PPA claims.
General Duties
Attend monthly staff meetings and other mandatory training events.
Take part in the annual performance appraisal system and undertake such training as is deemed necessary by the practice.
Perform other tasks as required by the Doctors and Managers which are reasonable and in line with the principles of this job description.
