Job Title: Marine Conservation Officer

Join the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions as a Marine Conservation Officer and contribute to the conservation of Western Australia's marine ecosystems.

Job Summary:

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Kensington, Western Australia. The successful candidate will work under general direction to undertake spatial information planning and consultation applicable to the establishment and management of marine conservation reserves.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake spatial information planning and consultation applicable to the establishment and management of marine conservation reserves, including supporting joint management partner, stakeholder and community consultation exercises.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of marine information systems and techniques to support the department's marine reserve planning, policy development and management priorities.
  • Provide specialist advice, spatial information analysis, presentation and decision support for the department's marine conservation reserve program.
Selection Criteria:

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline, such as environmental or marine science, natural resources management, geography, or geographic information systems. They will also have considerable knowledge and experience in the application of geographic information systems and management of spatial information relevant to natural asset planning and management.

Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated experience in working within a multidisciplinary team and liaising with a range of stakeholders, including traditional owners, local and state government, peak bodies, special interest groups, and individuals in the gathering of spatial information for natural asset planning and management.

They will also have considerable experience in the identification, capture, processing, analysis, and interactive presentation of complex spatial datasets to a wide range of stakeholders, with a preference for experience using marine spatial information.

The successful candidate will have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience in research, analysis, problem solving, the production of reports, and high-standard map products.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for permanent appointment, it is essential to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship, or Australian permanent residency status or a visa with entitlement to live and work in Australia for the term of the contract.
