Job Opportunity: Locum Consultant in Obstetric Anaesthesia

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant in Obstetric Anaesthesia to join our team at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement. This includes responsibility for the provision of a safe and efficient Obstetric anaesthetic service for elective theatres and delivery suite emergency care at UHL, including preoperative assessment and perioperative care.

The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background in Obstetric Anaesthesia, with the ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems and demonstrate clear, logical thinking. They will also have excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Obstetric Consultant Anaesthetist non-resident on-call rota as well as evening and weekend resident rota. They will also be required to work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist high-risk Obstetric anaesthesia outpatient clinic work
  • Participate in the Obstetric Consultant Anaesthetist non-resident on-call rota as well as evening and weekend resident rota
  • Support the Anaesthetic department in delivering high-quality elective and emergency theatre sessions
  • Work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences

Person Specification:

  • Full GMC registration
  • MB;BS or Equivalent
  • Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date
  • Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems
  • Demonstrates clear, logical thinking / analytical approach
  • Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest
  • Ability to effectively organise, prioritise and manage clinical workload
  • Understanding of wider health agenda and modern NHS
