Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Market Risk Management Lead to join our Energy Markets team at Octopus Energy. This is a key leadership role that will cover all of our current and future international supply businesses.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and innovative risk management professional to lead our Market Risk team in understanding and managing risks as conditions evolve. As a facilitator rather than a policeman, you will work closely with our international businesses to agree appropriate trading approaches.

You will be directly supported by a small but talented team and work with developers, engineers, and analysts to build and improve tools. Some international travel may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with our supply entities worldwide to understand market conditions and develop effective risk strategies
  • Design and implement Group and country-specific Market Risk Policies, consulting local traders and management
  • Create analysis and visualizations that provide a clear, unified Group view of country-specific risk positions, working closely with the engineering team
  • Analyze weather risk and develop strategies to manage this risk, potentially originating and executing positions
  • Work closely with local trading management to identify and execute wholesale deals that minimize risk
  • Explore the use of asset and consumer flexibility as risk management tools
  • Develop comprehensive reports and materials for senior stakeholders, including the Octopus Energy Group board
Requirements
  • Strong numerical ability and risk understanding
  • Energy market experience beneficial but not essential
  • Basic Python knowledge can be advantageous but not necessary
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for building trusted relationships with business unit management teams while maintaining the ability to challenge constructively
Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this position is £80,000-£110,000, depending on experience. Benefits include opportunities for professional growth, collaboration with a talented team, and contributions to shaping the company's future in the energy sector.
