Refuse/Recycling Loader

Job Summary:

As a Refuse/Recycling Loader with Pertemps TM, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of our community. Your primary responsibility will be to collect refuse and recycling from properties on designated rounds, ensuring that residents and businesses in Carmarthenshire have access to efficient waste management services.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collect and load refuse and recycling into vehicles in accordance with operational plans and procedures, adhering to safety protocols and codes of practice.

2. Operate power mechanisms, including automated loading and compaction equipment, to assist drivers in operational activities and minimize risks to health and safety.

3. Support drivers in safely maneuvering vehicles, carrying out reversing assistant duties, and controlling traffic to prevent accidents and injuries.

4. Conduct visual inspections of sacks and containers to ensure prohibited waste is not collected and recyclable waste is deposited correctly, reporting any non-compliance to drivers and applying approved notices as necessary.

5. Clear up debris and spills immediately, and report heavy littering incidents to drivers for prompt resolution.

6. Collaborate with drivers to address operational issues, such as missed collections, spillages, and litter problem areas, using initiative to resolve problems efficiently.

7. Assist drivers in complying with disposal site rules for unloading and weighing at transfer stations, landfill sites, or recycling facilities.

8. Utilize problem-solving skills to address unique collection requirements, contamination, and safety concerns, ensuring the service is delivered to the highest standard.

9. Engage with the public to promote recycling messages and improve participation in recycling schemes, providing guidance, support, and advice in a knowledgeable and polite manner.

10. Support other crews in delivering and completing waste and recycling collection rounds as required.

Requirements:

1. Adhere to Divisional/Services policies and procedures, including Risk Management principles, Safe Systems of Work, and the Code of Practice for Refuse & Recycling.

2. Maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge by complying with relevant training requirements to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective service is provided.

3. Develop working relationships with Managers, Supervisors, colleagues, and crew members to cultivate and implement continual improvement measures and adopt the Council's behavioural standards.

4. Uphold the authority's core values and maintain customer care principles in responding to public queries in a polite manner to contribute to a customer-focused service.

5. Wear allocated personal protective clothing and equipment at all required times to maintain personal safety and that of the crew, ensuring requests for new equipment are submitted to drivers in accordance with service protocol and timescales.
