Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Plaster Technician to join our Outpatient team in the Plaster Room and Fracture Clinics at Worthing Hospital and St Richards Hospital.

Main Duties
  • Provide care to a wide range of adult and paediatric patients attending the Plaster Room.
  • Manage basic and complex wound care needs of patients.
  • Remove sutures and skin clips, and apply and remove casts and splints in consultation with treating clinicians.
  • Select and issue appropriate walking aids, and instruct patients in their use.
  • Perform cast applications and support in manipulations and reductions.
  • Apply braces to patients as required, and remove K wires and adjust external fixators.
  • Design and construct specialist custom casts and splints as needed in consultation with medical staff.
  • Assist nursing staff in Orthopaedic clinics, and ensure clinics run smoothly.
  • Resolve queries, requests, and complaints in a polite manner, and ensure patients understand their treatment and care plan.
  • Apply specialised knowledge and skills to ensure optimal treatment outcomes and minimise patient discomfort.
Requirements
  • British Casting Certificate (BCC) and British Orthopaedic Casting registration.
  • 1 year clinical experience in an appropriate setting.
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Judgmental skills, able to analyse problems, formulate solutions, and decide on the best course of action or treatment.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, manage workload without supervision, and maintain plaster room equipment.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety issues, and experience of teaching students and junior staff members.
  • Computer skills and accurate record keeping.

  • Demonstrates UHS Trust values, and ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload.
  • Good time keeping, and evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles.
