About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Habilitation Specialist or a qualified Rehabilitation Worker to join our team at Wandsworth Sensory Support Service (WSSS). As a Habilitation Specialist, you will be part of a team of 30 staff members who provide direct support to 700 children and young people with sensory impairment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a comprehensive Habilitation programme for pupils on your caseload, using your specialist knowledge and experience to maximise their potential for independence and develop their essential life skills.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of national standards, ensuring strict adherence to maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a small, yet highly experienced team committed to providing high-quality support to children and young people across the borough.
  • Provide flexible support, visiting children and young people in their school or home environment, as well as routes in between school, home, or other areas.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to transform young people's lives, promote independence, and develop your career within Special Educational Needs.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Habilitation Specialist or a qualified Rehabilitation Worker (with the Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Work, Vision Impairment) willing to undertake additional recognised qualifications.
  • Good understanding of the required quality standards for Habilitation.
  • Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, their families, and professionals.
  • Experience working with children with vision impairment is highly desirable.
