About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Habilitation Specialist to join our team at Richmond and Wandsworth Council. As a key member of our Sensory Support Service, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people with sensory impairment in Wandsworth.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Caseload Management: You will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive Habilitation programme for a caseload of up to 40 pupils, using your specialist knowledge and experience to maximize their potential for independence and develop their essential life skills.
  2. Regulatory Compliance: You will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of national standards, ensuring strict adherence to maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
  3. Collaboration: You will work as part of a small, yet highly experienced team committed to providing high-quality support to children and young people across the borough.
  4. Flexibility: You will provide support to children and young people in various settings, including schools, homes, and community areas.
  5. Professional Development: You will have the opportunity to develop your career within Special Educational Needs and make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and young people.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Habilitation Specialist or a qualified Rehabilitation Worker with a Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Work, Vision Impairment.
  • Good understanding of quality standards for Habilitation.
  • Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, their families, and professionals.
  • Experience working with children with vision impairment is highly desirable.
