Job Title: Biomedical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist Trainee

The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join their team. As a Biomedical Scientist, you will play a crucial role in providing a comprehensive Point of Care Testing (POCT) service, ensuring the effective diagnosis and management of patients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and specialist procedures and investigations, analyzing biological specimens using scientific methods, and reporting results to medical staff. You will also be involved in developing a comprehensive POCT training program, ensuring healthcare workers are trained and competency assessed to UKAS standards.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining critical devices, such as blood gas analyzers, and troubleshooting issues. You will also be expected to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including doctors, nurses, and engineers, and ensure that services are compliant with governance and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide timely and accurate test results using appropriate equipment.
  • Routine and specialist Blood Sciences analyses, validation, interpretation, and reporting of results.
  • Maintain complex analytical equipment.
  • Supervise, teach, advise, and inform all grades of staff.
  • Comply with Standards of Proficiency for State Registration.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all aspects of Caldicott.
Requirements:
  • BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
  • HCPC state registration.
  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences.
Experience:
  • Demonstrable Post-Registration experience in a Chemistry or Haematology NHS laboratory.
  • Experience in validating patient results in Chemistry and/or Haematology.
Knowledge:
  • Health and safety awareness.
Skills:
  • Ability to work to high standards, meeting demanding deadlines.
  • Dexterous.
  • Numerate.
  • IT Literate.
  • Effective communication skills.
