About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Led Catheter Clinic Practitioner to join our team at NELFT NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our clinical team, you will be responsible for leading and managing a nurse-led catheter clinic for patients with long-term urethral/suprapubic urinary catheters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on the nurse-led service in line with identified protocols and clinical guidance.
  • Arrange patient follow-up appointments, respond to general enquiries, provide education as required, and make new patient appointments.
  • Work independently with a caseload of patients, ensuring comprehensive assessments, targeted education, and planned regular follow-up appointments as per individual care plans.
  • Ensure evidence-based, high-quality, safe, and effective clinical care is provided to all service users, including supervision of nurses within the clinic environment.
  • Oversee the booking of transport as per patient requirements.
  • Ensure the catheter service has adequate supplies to function.
  • Function as a positive role model and resource for all staff, disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Deliver a client-focused service that promotes good customer service and effective working relationships.
  • Provide onward referral to other community/hospital services, including health and social care, to ensure safe patient management.
  • Establish and maintain links with hospital urology consultants and urology nurse specialists.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and relationships across all disciplines and services.
Requirements
  • First-level Registered Nurse currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council/BSc (Hons)
  • Physical Clinical Assessment Skills Course
  • Practice educator or other teaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP)
  • Previous experience as a RN/Paramedic in a band 6 post or equivalent within a relevant clinical area, working as an autonomous practitioner for at least 1 year
  • Experience of undertaking advanced practitioner level physical examination and assessment skills
  • Extensive post-registration experience of managing several types of catheterisations/urology problems
  • Sufficient personal resilience to cope with challenging emotional situations
  • Commitment towards own personal and professional development
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Ability to travel to a variety of sites across NELFT
