Job Title: Commercial Lawyer

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lawyer to join our team at The Stephen James Partnership. As a key member of our legal team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our business on non-transactional work.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial contracting, with experience in negotiating and managing contracts, as well as a proven track record of working with procurement teams to ensure supplier contracts are managed effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate and manage commercial contracts, including IT, real estate, and travel supplier contracts
  • Maintain and manage commercial contract precedents and templates, ensuring they are up-to-date with legal, policy, or regulatory changes
  • Work closely with procurement to ensure supplier contracts are managed appropriately
  • Advise on data protection and Freedom of Information Act issues
  • Support the Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel, and Company Secretary on corporate matters and initiatives
  • Manage intellectual property, including trademark issues and working with trademark agents to address potential infringements
  • Oversee the outsourcing of significant commercial matters and specialized tasks to external legal counsel
  • Analyse and report on legal and regulatory changes, implementing appropriate business responses
  • Facilitate the establishment of new offices, branches, and subsidiaries, including assessing risks and determining suitable corporate structures
  • Draft, maintain, and advise on group policies, and share best practices through training and knowledge-building initiatives
Requirements
  • 4+ years of experience as a qualified Commercial Lawyer in England and Wales, with training from a recognized City firm
  • Recent in-house corporate experience working on commercial contract negotiation and management
  • Broader experience of data protection issues, issues arising from activities in developing markets, and working on company registration and maintenance in the UK and abroad is preferred
  • Attention to detail, strong project and time-management skills
