Brief Description

Works Delivery Scotland is a multi-disciplinary organisation that plans and delivers project work across the Scottish rail network, ranging from minor routine maintenance tasks to full-scale enhancements. This vacancy is for a Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to join our Works Delivery Buildings & Civils team in Scotland. The team delivers a variety of planned and reactive projects to our Buildings and Structures assets across Scotland, primarily focused on maintenance and life extension with occasional renewals projects. Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, this role provides engineering assurance for design and construction activities for Buildings & Civils works, primarily focusing on our Buildings assets and work to fire alarm and CCTV systems, high & low power, distribution boards, and bonding.

Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning, and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation.Manage all engineering activities to ensure schemes are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost, and quality.Arrange audits of contractors monitoring safety, environment, and quality of design, construction, testing, and commissioning.Manage the design and/or construction elements of relevant projects to meet current legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.Provide project management advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision.Review competence of project/engineering roles.Engineer projects to the standards and specifications of Network Rail.Carry out the duties of a Designated Project Engineer (DPE) under Network Rail Standard NR/L2/RSE/02009 for multi-discipline projects.Identify and share best practices across the various project teams.Monitor design and specialist consultants and contractors.Maintain the use of relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to allocated projects.Manage the environmental aspects of allocated projects in accordance with Network Rail's environmental policy.What you will bring to the role:

Relevant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi-discipline areas.Knowledge of quality assurance.CDM, risk assessment, engineering management competency.It's desirable if you have it to help give you context to the role:

Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level.Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.Project safety management experience.
