About the Role:
The Health and Safety Manager will lead the HSE team in promoting and delivering the group HSE policies and strategies to the site(s). The primary objective is to protect the employees and the environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Evaluate site equipment, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, industry, ISO standards, group H&S policies, and strategy.
- Assist managers, supervisors, and staff in identifying and reporting hazards/near misses and taking corrective action or initiating controls to minimize risk.
- Implement and monitor proactive systems such as H&S inspections, Step Back & Take 5, and leadership tours.
- Conduct internal health and safety auditing and inspection, taking corrective action for non-conformances identified.
- Ensure risk assessments are completed for each machine/process on the QUOR system.
- Maintain health and safety statutory reports.
- Ensure 3rd-party surveys are scheduled as required and actions uploaded onto the site surveys App and tracked to completion.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation, keeping the site register up to date and feeding back to stakeholders where necessary.
- Advise directors, managers, and supervisors on implementing practices and procedures to ensure site compliance with statutory requirements and guidelines, and group standards.
- Liaise with group health and safety and other senior managers to identify correct resource levels and manage operation within agreed parameters.
- Ensure site compliance with company's ISO and Management Systems.
- Challenge, mentor, and coach staff in all aspects of health and safety performance.
- Challenge current processes and practices for continual improvement.
- Objectively assess H&S team's performance and develop improvement plans through succession planning.
- Ensure department managers are accountable for their area of responsibility through job descriptions.
- Manage HSE departmental budget.
- Conduct data analysis on accidents, hazards/near misses, and safety observations to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure work equipment is inspected in line with company PUWER policy and regulations, CURS document issued, PDI completed, and commissioning document undertaken.
- Review and update training requirements of the department in line with current legislation and changing departmental operations.
- Ensure H&S projects are delivered on time and within agreed budgets.
- Respect and honor the sentiment of Cranswick ethical policies and codes of conduct when interacting with colleagues.
- Ensure staff are given the appropriate level of training necessary to carry out their work within legislative and health and safety guidelines.
- Attend quarterly group H&S meeting, present information as requested, and close out assigned minutes within agreed timescales.
- Ensure group KPI reports are completed on time.
Requirements, Experience, and Person Specification:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or working towards.
- Familiar with Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System accredited to ISO.
- Food Industry experience is desirable but not essential.
- Must be a team player with a 'can do' attitude.
- Flexible with working hours and duties.
- Full UK driving license.
- Ideally a background in FMCG.
- Lead with behavioral health and safety, promoting and encouraging best practice and cultural changes.
