About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Midwifery Coordinator to join our team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. As a key member of our Labour Ward team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our maternity services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, ensuring effective management of daily activity and flow within the maternity service.
  • Ensure high standards of midwifery care, reduction in length of stay, and responsiveness to individualized needs, thus increasing women and birthing people satisfaction.
  • Be visible within the unit for staff, having a helicopter view of the unit, and be clinically aware of the needs of the service while ensuring staffing is deployed to provide a high standard of care.
  • Liaise with the rota coordinator to ensure the unit complies with safe staffing requirements.
  • Ensure rotas are maintained and accurately reflect the availability of staff.
Requirements
  • Registered Midwife with extensive band 6 experience.
  • Degree in a related field.
  • Recent evidence of clinical or professional development.
  • Mentorship course or equivalent teaching experience.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • MSc in a relevant subject (evidence of working towards already on pathway).
  • Experience of working as a senior band 6 midwife role.
  • Practice development or management of projects or initiatives.
  • Experience with managing patient care relevant to specialist area.
  • Experience in people management and improving the patient experience.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • Decision making ability.
  • Experience of change management/implementation of practice change.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering and coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
  • Knowledge of the Better Births Five Year Forward View for Maternity Services.
  • Understanding of statutory regulation of midwifery practice.
