Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting student learning and delivering targeted interventions in a secondary school. The role includes lesson delivery, classroom support, student development, assessment and feedback, pastoral support, team collaboration, and resource management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging lessons and interventions in the absence of the teacher, following the school's curriculum guidelines.
  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in preparing materials, supporting classroom management, and working with students individually or in small groups.
  • Student Development: Provide targeted support to students who may need extra help, adapting teaching techniques to suit their learning styles and abilities.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and keep detailed records to share with teaching staff.
  • Pastoral Support: Support the social, emotional, and behavioural development of students, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to plan, coordinate, and assess educational programs.
  • Resource Management: Assist with managing classroom resources and creating displays to enrich the learning environment.

Requirements

  • HLTA Qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a teaching assistant role, with experience delivering lessons or leading small groups preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Commitment: A genuine interest in supporting children's learning and development, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Safeguarding Awareness: Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
