Overview

Microsoft is seeking a skilled Optical Engineer to support the design and management of fiber products. The successful candidate will assess the parametric performance of fiber products against specifications and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and produce hollowcore fiber and cable solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement test requirements and improvements to hardware designs.
  • Analyze complex problems or flaws in feature or product designs.
  • Contribute to project implementation schedules and deliver hardware engineering aspects of moderately complex features or products.
  • Implement and track product plans with minimal guidance.
  • Identify opportunities to affect downstream execution of projects by resolving issues and implementing design tradeoffs.
  • Use data and statistical analyses to optimize existing processes or create new processes.
  • Identify common project risks and develop plans to address them.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or other STEM disciplines.
  • Proven work experience in product engineering in a manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in statistical parameters control for manufacturing and product testing.
  • Hands-on experience with microscopes, including Scanning Electron Microscope and Optical Microscope.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in defect analysis using microscope techniques, including Energy-dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) and Raman Spectroscopy.
