Senior Welding and Materials Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Welding and Materials Engineer to join our UK & Global IRM team, based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. This opportunity is open on both a staff or contract basis.

The successful candidate will operate in a dynamic, technical, and diverse environment, working across a range of exciting and challenging engineering projects. They will provide expert support for tenders, studies, live projects, and research and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist knowledge and expertise in reviewing welding and materials procedures for linepipe, spools, manifolds, and towheads.
  • Solve technical challenges related to welding and materials, offering solutions to support the organisation's needs.
  • Ensure that technical compliance is maintained throughout all stages of work.
  • Support procurement activities by providing specifications, datasheets, and resolving technical issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to fabrication activities conducted both in-house and by subcontractors.
  • Contribute to tenders and studies by offering materials and welding expertise.
  • Mentor and supervise less experienced engineers when required.
  • Interface with multiple stakeholders including internal project teams, quality departments, clients, subcontractors, and other discipline teams.
  • Liaise with inspection verification bodies and client technical authorities to ensure compliance.
  • Review and approve documentation submitted by subcontractors.
  • Support structural teams with materials expertise for spools and structural pipework, covering pipes, bends, fittings, flanges, valves, and structural elements.
  • Manage discipline-specific budgets within assigned projects.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree in metallurgy, materials technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in a Subsea Materials Engineering position or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of materials standards and specifications (e.g., BS4515 pt1 / pt2, DNV-ST-F101 is advantageous).
  • Experience collaborating across various departments and engaging with external suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and systematic working methods with an attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Positive attitude, high level of integrity, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to problem-solve effectively.
