About the Role

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialty Doctor to join our Medical Day Unit team. As a Specialty Doctor in Oncology, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our oncology services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent clinical care for patients attending the Medical Day Unit, working closely with consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Assess patients for their fitness for treatment and arrange appropriate investigations, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.
  • Prescribe systemic oncology treatments as per the consultants' treatment plan, working closely with the pharmacy and nursing teams to ensure effective treatment delivery.
  • Provide information and support to patients and their families regarding disease management, treatment side effects, and other related matters.
  • Contribute to outpatient and prescription clinics, working effectively with the nursing and pharmacy teams to achieve an excellent streamlined service for patients.
  • Take informed consent for all patients undergoing systemic treatment, ensuring that patients are fully informed and empowered to make decisions about their care.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous documentation on the electronic notes system, ensuring that patient information is communicated effectively and efficiently.
  • Make referrals to appropriate specialists as required, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
  • Work effectively with the nursing, pharmacy, and front-of-house teams to achieve an excellent streamlined service for patients and their relatives.
  • Review patients who attend the unit who may become unwell, working in conjunction with the inpatient team where required.
  • Manage acute clinical incidents on the medical day unit, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care in emergency situations.
  • Take phone calls from patients and their families, answering any questions they may have regarding their disease, treatment, or side effects.
  • Undergo annual appraisal to assess performance and promote personal development, ensuring that you are equipped to provide the best possible care for patients.
  • Provide current and timely medical reports, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
  • Work effectively as part of the medical day unit team to contribute to the development of the service, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.
