Job Title: Special Needs Practitioner
Location: Local Area
Hours: 27.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks plus 5 days
We are seeking a Special Needs Practitioner to join our specialist provision in the local area. Our provision provides a supportive environment that enables children with special needs up to 5 years old to explore, express, and learn through play.
The post holder will work as part of a team to ensure that planning, day-to-day running, and development at the centre aligns with our charity's vision and aims.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintaining the playrooms, ensuring they remain attractive, safe, and clean.
- Designing and implementing activities tailored to meet children's unique needs.
- Fostering strong relationships with families and professionals connected to your assigned Key Children.
- Serving as a dedicated Key Person to a group of children, responsible for observing, assessing, and planning to support their growth and development.
- Monitoring children during sessions and identifying their interests and developmental milestones.
- Documenting observations using various methods and sharing them with colleagues and parents/carers.
- Engaging with children using collaborative play or reflective approaches.
- Utilizing evidence-based teaching/learning strategies with children when necessary.
- Awareness of children's emotional needs and strategies to support them.
- Assisting parents/carers in understanding and meeting their child's play requirements.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Approachable and empathetic towards parents, able to actively listen and validate their emotions.
- Able to create a sense of value and belonging among all parents, promoting their confidence and involvement.
- Supportive of parents' concerns and willing to address them.
- Prepared to participate in staff meetings and collaborate closely with the team.
- Hold qualifications at NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development or equivalent.
- Possess skills to design and coordinate play activities for under-fives, taking into account each child's developmental stage.
- Able to effectively communicate with children of diverse abilities and backgrounds, fostering their development through participation and engagement.
- Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations and play materials that promote inclusivity and respect.
Salary: £13,992 to £15,007 per annum
